According to work carried out by Blythe, Todd & Miller
(1999) there are 6 basic categories of intentional motion that are the basis of
human interaction and animacy displays. These are, in there simplest form:
Fighting, Guarding, Chasing, Following, Courting and Playing.
Our current
research is aimed at trying to create animacy displays based on these six
categories and testing to see if observers can still distinguish one category
from another. Below is an example of how each category in there experimental
form.
