"Earliest, Self-defining, Flashbulb, and Cultural Memories: Preliminary Results From a Large Scale Survey"

The memory reports database (MRD) contains approximately 17,000 descriptions of autobiographical memories. The are descriptions of the very first memory, self-defining memories of significant life events, flashbulb memories of important public events, and memories associate with the Beatles. There are various ratings and measures for each memory and, importantly, all memories were dated. In this talk I review some of the findings for each of the four groups of memories and report one quite unusual finding: a strong and highly reliable reminiscence bump for all 4 sets of memories. What this means for the self is considered.
