Eye movements and cognitive processes in reading
In this talk, I will provide an overview of research on eye movements during reading. I will discuss research related to (1) the size of the perceptual span, (2) integration of information across saccades in reading, and (3) eye movement control in reading. Factors influencing how far we move our eyes on each saccade and how long we fixate will be discussed. Issues related to using eye movements as on-line measures of cognitive processes in reading will be discussed, and an overview will be provided of the E-Z Reader model which provides a good account of a lot of eye movement data.
