A whole university approach for student mental health
SMaRteN is the UKRI funded, student mental health research network. Our focus is on encouraging more research to understand student mental health. Recently we’ve seen a sense of crisis around student mental health. This is apparent in the media, government briefings and interest group reports. Reactive and individual services have been struggling to meet demand. Universities are exploring the idea of a different approach, a settings based approach. However the evidence base here is sparce. SMaRteN is working with researchers across the UK to try to start to address this evidence gap. This presentation will summarise what we know about student mental health, identifying our knowledge gaps. I’ll share some data that highlights some of the challenges we are facing around student mental health and will outline the whole university approach, as a settings based approach.
