Embodied robots and virtual humans: Transcending social interactions through technology
Today, it is possible to be embodied in a robot and collaborate with someone at a distant location or to hold social events in virtual reality. But can a local nurse collaborate with a distant surgeon embodied in a robot? So far, the technological advances have outpaced our understanding of the psychological consequences of interacting with people embodied in robots or virtual humans. This project addresses these crucial questions by using an integrative social neuroscience approach while incorporating state-of-the-art social robotics and virtual reality.
