Don't make me laugh: the trouble with positive emotional expressions

In this talk I will discuss the importance of modality and valence in studying emotional expressions, and present some evidence that laughter may form basic emotional expression. I will address the evolution of laughter and its social role, and discuss the distinct neural processing of spontaneous and social laughter. I will touch on the role of laughter in emotion regulation and the ways in which laughter processing can be compromised.
