Epic fail: Hormonal contraceptives, schadenfreude, and fail videos
Hormonal contraceptives are designed to prevent pregnancy, but recent research suggests that they also influence how women feel about their romantic partners. Women's preferences for male masculinity, how jealous they feel, and the behaviours they deploy to keep their relationships intact, all vary according to pill use. I discuss some of these findings, and a recent study of schadenfreude using "fail videos" (short clips of people experiencing misfortunes). Come along: it will be like an episode of You've Been Framed but with ANOVAs.
