Emotion and Facial Expressions in the Trobriand Islands of Papua New Guinea
My research focuses on facial expression and everyday conceptions of emotion. In the case of facial expression, I am interested in the role of context and the description of spontaneous expressions of emotion. In the case of everyday knowledge of the emotions, I am interested in the concepts of emotion in different cultures, as well as their interaction with social norms and motives. The two topics are certainly closely related, and link in with other, fascinating research issues, such as feelings of justice and injustice, and indeed moral behaviour in general.
