Level 3 course exams

by Steve Draper

This page is intended mainly for students in the psychology department and staff, and is meant to show the arrangements for the part 1 finals (level 3) exams. These can change from year to year. This shows the structure of the arrangements for the session 2011-2012; and the exam places and times will be officially announced through this web site.

The big change that has just emerged is that this year, for the first time, each subject (each course module) will be separately examined; rather than being combined into exams with two or three subjects examined in one sitting. The time per subject will be the same (1 hour in most cases); and the type of questions will remain the same for each subject, so that past papers remain as much of a guide as before (i.e. subject to any shifts in the curriculum for that course which you will have been told about).

Thus a single honours level 4 student will now have eight separate exam occasions to attend (plus ProfSkills done by coursework only). There is a definite possibility that exams could be on a Saturday, or in the evening (e.g. 6:30pm-7:30pm).

Single honours, joint honours, psychological studies, and visiting students should all attend the same exam occasion.

Professional Skills is assessed by a portfolio of continuous assessment work (not an exam). Statistics is assessed by a 2-hour exam where students attempt all questions with no choice; this exam is an open-note exam and students may take notes, books and calculators into the hall. The other seven modules are each assessed by a single question allotted one hour, chosen from a small set of alternatives (usually four), and no notes, books or calculators are allowed.
