Aims

To explore the way in which the human body has been constructed in a variety of social and religious contexts. To explore how conceptions of the body interact with understandings of what it means to be a human person. To discuss the way in which contemporary theory challenges and problematizes traditional understandings of the body. To consider the implications of new developments in body technology and the way in which religious thinkers are responding to these developments. To engage with key issues relating to theology and embodiment such as marriage, sexual identity and images of women. To examine a selected range of primary texts relating to these themes.
